RE: Fuse orientation change - a real eye-opener

All wire has directionality. Why? Drawing a copper rod through progressively smaller dies to make fine gauge copper wire imparts a directional pattern to the copper crystal structure. Why on earth it affects the sound I have no idea. However, something does, because every damn piece of wire I have ever tested is directional (and no, cryogenic treatment doesn't fix this "problem").
Saying something is impossible because you have no explanation for it is short-sighted. Been there and done that. Then was hit in the face with the fact that wire, and fuses are made of wire, had a different sonic character one way than it did the other. Most annoying. I "knew" wire couldn't possibly have a "direction," ... but then ... I heard it. Really, really annoying. But then again, reality does bite every now and then, doesn't it?
It's a free tweak. If you can't hear it, you need to work on your listening skills. Fuses, and any other piece of wire will have what I call "bumps" near the frequency extremes. In one direction the "bumps" will be in/near the low bass and upper treble. In the other direction, the "bumps" will be in/near the mid/upper bass and the low treble. And yes, that translates to one direction being harsher than the other....or more detailed, depending on your listening skills and knowledge base. In this as in lots of other things, one size does not fit all.

It sounds like what it is made out of.
