I'm currently re-doing a pair of Infinity RSIIb's, building external crossovers in separate boxes and wiring with Cardas copper litz wire: 11.5ga for woofers, 15.5ga for mids, 17.5ga for tweeters. The litz wire is a bit more work as you must strip the enamel off all the tiny wire strands at each end before soldering, but litz has less losses at high frequencies and since all the strands are individually enameled, corrosion should never be a problem.
In the meantime I'm listening to a pair of Snell Type C/i speakers I picked up - they are completely stock and are really nice speakers! Maybe not the equal of my big Infinitys, but close.
