a 2.5 way isn't possible with an MTM array using just two midrange drivers.
with an MTM the aim of is to centre the output of both midrange drivers between both of them - in the range just below the tweeter's full-level output - so it seems to come from the same point as the treble does.
A 2.5 way uses an additional mid/bass or dedicated bass driver, driven only in the bass, to add to the output of the mid and bass driver/s from the system's baffle diffraction step frequency and down into the bass.
IF you used 3 mid/bass drivers - two matching ones at a minimum - you could do both MTM and a 2.5 way, but not with just two mid/bass drivers!
Okay?
2 or 3 smallish bass drivers are each working less hard when doing mid and lower bass!
Another potential plus is that the extra bass-only driver can be mounted close enough to the floor to fill-in the floor-bounce dip, (whether it matters or not).
