Almost all solid state amps are stable with no load, so you probably don't need resistors. If there's some blown or otherwise defective transistor, you can expect almost every voltage to be wrong, and the signal may stop very quickly. That is *not* an indication that you've reached the problem. You need a schematic and you need to know how to check parts in-situ using a DVM with diode check, plus some other tricks. OTOH, I've "fixed" amps that had nothing wrong other than an aging and dirty switch or pot, or a broken wire. Like they say in our state lottery commercials- "Hey, you never know!"
