In Reply to: Hi-Fi Tuning fuses supposedly are not directional like the IsoCleans. Not so! posted by Norm on November 8, 2007 at 11:51:06:
Hi;
I have no experience with these fuse brands, using buss fuses.
We had a weird observation: you put the fuse in the amp in the correct orientation (=better sound), listen to a few days, and voila! you change the fuse directionality, and you notice that it has been reversed.
We have checked a couple different amps and preamps, which had their fuses (all sorts) installed at least a couple months ago, and all of them - without exception - were in the wrong orientation, yielding better sonics when we flipped the fuse, and worse sound when we flipped the fuse back to the original orientation. So, this effect is not due to cleaning the contacts, it has to do with the internal structure of the fuses.
I've also noticed that a buss fuse, that has no orientation - an unused fuse sounds the same way, if I flip it after a couple minutes listening: after it spends a couple days in the amp, becomes directional. So, you flip the fuse, and sounds better...
Go and figure.
