Sorry bartc if you thought I was 'getting at you'. I wasn't. I was merely using your question to try to point out that so many people have ended up 'blaming' the wrong thing/things for their (sound) problems. Only after their experiences of gaining improvement in their sound by such as 'freezing' (by whatever method) CDs etc do they realise just what a wealth of information is (and always had been) on the CDs - which they had not been hearing correctly prior to carrying out the freezing procedure.
Please don't downgrade your ability. You are as capable as anyone of hearing increased quality and you are as capable as anyone of understanding any logical implications.
If people are, actually, hearing the improvements they describe after freezing CDs (or having them cryogenically frozen) and, up until that point, they had been listening to those CDs for (say) 5, 10 or 15 years, then that means that for those 5, 10 or 15 years they had NOT been hearing all the information that had been on the CDs all the time !! You cannot add 1s and 0s by freezing You cannot add information by freezing. If people are now able to hear improved sound (meaning that they are hearing additional information which enables their working memory to construct a better sound picture to present to the brain), then that additional information MUST HAVE BEEN on the CD all the time !!
And, once they are hearing this additional information, then the next implication is that their existing equipment - CD player, amplifier, speaker system - which they have had all these 5, 10 or 15 years has been perfectly capable of 'handling' far more information than they had ever realised !!

May Belt.
