I believe you have amde a very nice experimental set up, certainly one which would leave little to chance.
Even with my cheap system: a Harman Kardon 3375 stereo receiver and a pair of Sonance 622C symphony speakers, fed by a Music Hall CD25.2 player hooked up with the base line Kimbner Toniks and the 4 PR speaker cable, I can hear the difference. Granted it can be a little subtle, and I primarily hear it in the bottom end of the frequency spectrum.
In doing a little research on the possibilities of an explanation, I ementioned earlier that I see less stress in the moire patterns generated. What is also interesting is the controversy about the use of polycarbonats for drinking and food packaging. Some are worried that the polycarbonates are leaching out too much biphenyl A's. I am wondering if this leaching out of the biphenyls can affect the optical properties. In addition Polycarbonates absorb up to 0.35% water, which can affect optical properties. Small numbers granted, but the digital code is likewise very small.
Any way speculative food for thought.
Stu
PS. Incidentally, while I don't have that particular Diana Krall disc, all the rest have been phase inverted, in my system. Have you tried the raw disc with the polarity reversed?
