Definately spend some time with set up like jbmbc suggested. Remember if your room isn't acoustically sound, it won;t matter how good your gear is. Go the the Room Acoustics (Rives) page for some info on room treatment. DIY is pretty inexpensive.1. Try having a dedicated line installed. Usually cheaper than 2-3 new PC and this will benefit your whole system.
1b. NO!!! It's potentially dangerous and against electical code.
2. Not worth the effort and you may mess your speakers up.
3. For inexpensive cables check out Blue Jeans Cable, BetterCables, etc. They susally use good Belden, Canare cable.
4. Before part swapping, try rope caulking the chassis of your CD player and apm chassis. Also look for some isolation devices for the CD player such as Herbie's footers.
