Changing the power cord will yield varying results. Based on my experience, rarely is it as simple as just increasing the guage. Do a search here for the Asylum Power Cord. This is a reasonably priced cord.Again based on my experience, you can probably squeeze out a lot more sound from different speaker cable topologies. Consider the DIY route if you are so inclined. Check on the Cable asylum.
The same can be said for your choice of interconnects. Different topologies yield differnt results here as well. what works well in one system may not sopund the same in another. This is a joy for a DIYer. You may be able to build multiple ICs before you hit your$50 threshold. See the cable asylum, Jon Risch's and Venhaus's sites for DIY cables. You should be able to link to these sites via the FAQ asyslum.
You will get some benefit from soldering the cables, but that is a rather drastic first tweak. I would suggest that you find the combination of cables that sound good to you before commiting to hardwiring cables.
If your amp has large PS caps that are screw mounted there are dividends to be gained by increasing the capacitance and bypassing the caps. If they are soldered in you may want to try some of the tweaks above before undertaking cap mods. For ideas in this regard do a search on the tweakers asylum.
If you can solder go the DIY cable route first. LOL
