Al....that is *at least* in part what's occurring, that being a 'better' metallurgy of the plating. This is what I'm hearing. Also, the connecting wire inside the Isoclean fuse is *much* heavier/thicker than what it replaced. That is likely contributing to the better sonics as well, no different than inserting a heavier-gauge power cable on one's amp, allowing greater current flow to the power supply.

or make things worse if the wrong combination of metals was used prior to application of the gold.

I don't believe that is the case whatsoever....I'm hearing increased clarity, definition, resolution....all very musical indeed.
