Re: jneutron? I protest, alan...

Duster: "" jneutron said: "...using rudimentary understandings is also not a good thing..." ""

Which is entirely correct. If somebody is going to present information as rebuttal for a concept, that information has to be adequate for the task. Typically, when someone show up here and blasts wire talk as being nonsense, they are using the century old concept of 20 to 20 Khz, yada yada distortion level. Without consideration of virtual soundstage generation. When they try to trash powercord "sound", they invoke supply design only, without consideration of the ground loop formed by the entire power delivery and connection system. Rudimentary understandings of the overall system...doesn't mean they're dumb, just that they haven't considered the entire audio system.

Duster: ""jneutron's "reference system" is a pro audio sound reinforcement system ala weddings, discos, et al. ""

My reference system is my ears. What you are referring to is a sound system that I designed and built to meet the criteria of a specific need. It was designed to:

1. Fits into a hyundai elantra, limiting cabinet size.
2. Support the sound requirements within a 450 seat venue, and "outgun" the noise level of 250 laughing children of target age 12.speaks can run forever at 400 wrms, efficiency at 100 to 105 dBspl 1w/1m.
3. Survive an explosion caused by a large balloon filled with a ratio correct mix of hydrogen and oxygen, this is a pulse that exceeds 155 dBspl at the speakers...used 12 inchers for that in a sealed cabinet.
4. Be utterly quiet while being within a quarter mile of a 5 megawatt 12 phase power supply, a 15 megawatt fridge, within a building with solid state dimmers, AC, flourescent lights....the source being 100 feet from the amplifier and mikes, an unbalanced feed, tied into a 39 inch tv on stage, and a quarter million volt van de graf within 5 feet.
5. Assemble the entire system in less than 10 minutes. I carry the amp and speaks, my 10 year old hooks it all up.

In all my years here, I've never claimed the system is useful for sit down listening sessions..it is not. It does extremely well what it was designed for.

Duster: ""His many responses to audiophile posts have no basis in even *typical* home system's applications as per audio value. Folks should be warned that his "perspectives" have no listening sessions to back up the various "insights" that he postures. ""

You mean, insights like cryo conditioning might be an issue for insulation integrity and therefore, safety? Insights like the possibility that an failed neutral house feed can be both an electrocution hazard as well as a fire hazard??

Point to a post of mine in the last 4 years where I have claimed that a listening session gave me a "perspective".

There have been two. The first, where I described the utter futility of using an 11 band eq to correct the soundstage image presented by my speakers. The speaks use 5% crossover components, the eq, 1%. The second, where I detail how my computer soundcard delays the right channel 11 uSec behind the first, a consequence of the mux/demux process in that card. And how using IID control doesn't correct the skew of the virtual image.

Duster: ""This hobby is about listening. ""

Then why do you constanty attack others..go listen to something.

Duster: """EE insights" are not the same as audiophile insights.""

Which is EXACTLY why I correct the assertions that pc's can't make a diff, cables can't make a diff.

Duster: """ jneutron does not "listen" before he shoots. Never. God knows what system he listens to (if any) at home. ""

Explain to me how the safety of people requires me listen to something?

Or, how the calculation of a rectifier thermal resistance to case requires me to listen to something..

Or, how to properly select the flux type used in soldering. Or, what materials can be compromised by cryo temperatures..

Duster: ""jneutron will surely blow my words into kingdom come over this post, but I don't give a rat's ass about that. He's a real word-wise troll. AA is for "Audiophiles" (not US Government salaried "tech-trolls"). ""

What you give a rat's ass about is not my problem..it is yours.

It is everyone's here when you resort to profanity in posts.

It is mine only when you resort to profanity in e-mails to me.

Duster: ""my 2 cents""

Your 2 cents seem to be devaluing over time. You explain the technical details of things you have no understanding of. Others have noticed that regardless of what it is, you hear a difference. And now you resort to cursing in response.

If you would temper your anger, you would see that you have become, um, something I do not think you wish to categorize yourself as.

I believe the most telling statement from someone was... they should have gained your permission before stating something, lest they invoke your anger. You are presenting yourself as an intolerant, closed minded stalker. And I do not believe this is what you wish to be considered. This is not your forum, you are not the policeman, you are a poster.

You need to re-evaluate what you are, as your issues I cannot fix.

The beauty of a forum is that all can bring in something which adds to the value. You, me, tweakeng, everybody. Just leave the attitude at home.

Cheers, John
