I am not a metalurgist nor a research scientist I have however spoken with those folks about cryo treatment. My first experience with cryo was in the late 80's when Ed Meitner's company and mine merged. Ed had a computer controled system in Montreal which later made its way to Calgary. Cryo is a perminent process and the effects never go away. In the case of a heavily machined piece of metal such as a complex piece of mould work the part may be treated several times during the manufacture process as a result of the machining process rather than the loss of the effect of the process. I hope that this is of some help.
