Re: Newbie Question - Solder

I have the 936 and find I don't need anything else for the small amount of cables and DIY kits and restores I've done.

As far as ICs go... It was mentioned about the "heatsink" qualities of RCAs. Even a suggestion that you progress to these high mass connectors as your skills improve.
Good advice from my, amateur, experience.

An alternative(and a good sounding one) could be to use Eichmann Bullet Plugs®.
These low mass plugs solder quickly and easily with any of the good solder mentioned in previous posts.
I would highlly recommend the use of a "third hand" device to help keep the cable and plug stationary while making the joint.

An other recommmendation that has been helpful to me is:
Set the Temp between 600° and 700°F and change tip size and shape to suite the job (heat transfer function)

There is a load of info on soldering here in the archives and on the web(like John Risch points to)

Get some desoldering braid to take apart your practice boards, and clean things up.
