Have you concidered driving the transformers with the buffer? The drive off the dac is weak, a 634 should be easier to drive than the output iron.
My outputs have a dc resistance of 38 ohms. This really loads down a dac. A buffer inbetween makes them sing!
This most likely has nothing to do with your hiss, that sounds like a grounding issue. It could be dc offset related. Those transformers most likely will not like much more than a couple hundred micro amps of dc running through them
The time needed to develop may be something warming up and drifting a little. Guess the idea of checking for dc across the primary will tell you if it is dac related. If the dc is low and rises after 30 minutes of playing you may have it located.
