deposited resistance track with a Wiper pressing on it, resulting in a moveable Mechanical connection..
Geez.. how could it possibly not be truly Excellent? The hot molded carbons are not "deposited" and are sufficiently consistent. Yeah, there's a wiper pressing on it resulting in a moveable mechanical connection, but you also have a wiper with a a moveable mechanical connection in the switch for your ladder attenuator. However with your ladder attenuator, you're stuck with discrete positions whereas with a pot, rotation is continuous.
But if you're worried about all the things you're sutffing your sound through, consider that with a hot molded carbon pot you're just going from the input lead wire to the input terminal, from the input terminal to the resistive element, from the resistive element to the ground terminal and from the ground terminal to the ground lead. On the output you're going from the resistive element to the wiper, from the wiper to the output terminal and from the output terminal to the output lead wire.
Now let's look at a ladder attenuator.
You've got your input lead to whatever it is that's tying together all the leads of your resistors on the first deck together, from that to the leads of your resistor, from the resistor lead to the resistor end cap, from the reistor end cap to the resistor's resistive element, from the resistor's resistive element to the resistor's other end cap, from the other end cap to the other resistor lead, from the resistor lead to the switch terminal, from the switch terminal to the switch contact, from the switch contact to the wiper, from the wiper to the pole contact, from the pole contact to the pole terminal, from the pole terminal to your lead wire to the other pole terminal, from the other pole terminal to the other pole contact, from the other pole contact to the other wiper, from the other wiper to the other switch contact, from the other switch contact to the other switch terminal, from the other switch terminal to the other resitor lead, from the other resistor lead to the other resistor end cap, from the other resistor end cap to the other resistor resistive element, from the resistive element to the other end cap, from the end cap to the resistor lead, from the resistor lead to whatever it is you're using to tie together all the resistor leads for your ground end, and from that to your ground lead. And finally on the output from your lead wire tying the two poles together to your output lead.
Now tell me, what makes that huge heap of connections and contacts so excellent?
