The 3.75" height you mention is not enough for the tube DIY crowd. IMHO the people to beat are front panel express. Take a look at what they offer. The tube DIY crowd is going to want the ability to email a layout drawing and have a finished product shipped to them. If they can't get that then most will simply buy a flat metal panel, like a relay rack panel or something from McMaster Carr and then either punch their own holes or have a local metal shop do it (water jet perhaps). Typically a wood base in used in these cases.Aluminum is an okay choice but in you could offer brass and/or copper chassis that would be a plus. I encourage you to ask over at tube DIY.
