Sure, you can go through the effort to design and either construct or have someone else construct a custom enclosure for you. I don't have a sense of how much that would cost (either in your time or money), but I'm hoping that many people won't want to go through the bother, especially when there's a great-looking enclosure at a decent price available. My source manufactures these chassis for a living, not as a one-off, and has the process, fit and finish down to a science.It is also true that many DIY kits are offered with an enclosure. However, many are not. Many enclosures included with kits are pretty basic. I own a Bottlehead Foreplay (which is a terrific preamp, especially when tweaked), but I constructed it in a rack mount chassis; Bottlehead's wood frame works but is not particularly attractive. My hope is that DIY'ers will appreciate the opportunity to build their projects, including kit projects, in impressive enclosures.
I'd welcome any further thoughts you might have on this subject.
