Hi
I added a picture of the bottom of the empire top.
I think it will act like a spring, as it is not solid, as you can see from the pic. So, I was going to add thin pieces of hardwood in the bigger sections, and dynamat on top of that, to fill in all the voids. When I am done, there ideally will be no space between the existing top, and the alum plate I am going to bolt it to.The point of the al plate is to add rigidity to the existing top. I will use the existing four mounting bolts, plus probably add one or two more where the indetation is for the platter. This should give a pretty solid bond between the two pieces. I hope this will stop most of the spring effect you described, or at least make it better.
As for the rest of the plinth, I have been trying to decide between a symposium clone design, or just using birch plywood. I know people have had good results with plywood, but I am wondering if the clone would work better. I guess I could also make a plywood plinth, and but that on a symposium clone.
I linked to the pics I have of my empire, in its current dismantled stage.
Randy
