For our best-best, we use circuit breakers for hi current, and slo blow solder in fuses for lower currents. We prefer ceramic fuses over glass types, even though they are somewhat inconvenient.
Fuses, in principle, are very nonlinear devices. After all, they have to heat up to melt, and the tempco of the metal in the fuse is going to be large and this generates a dynamic resistance change that is larger than almost anything in the path of the fuse.
