If you are building the amp yourself, glass has major advantages as they let you detect a short or over current situation and throwe the swithch before thing start to go pop and fizz.Frankly I think the "fuse thing" is more germaine when they are used for speaker protection. In that application, it seems pretty clearly established that thermal distortion (resistance changes with temperature) can be an issue due to amp speaker interactions.
