No, I hadn't tried roller bearings - the support beams were only 1" wide .I've been very impressed with the GPA stuff including their Apex feet which are a bearing footer. Interestingly the cup is carbon fibre and very steep sloped - radius not much wider than that of the bearing. Ditto for the radius of the cup that sits on top of the bearing. I find the steep sided cup approach intriguing given the standard preference for shallow cups of much larger radius. I suspect that the Apex works on the principle that the greatest amount of energy is always expended in changing the state of motion from stationary to rest, or vice versa, so using a very steep cup makes it exceedingly difficult to initiate movement and ensures greater dissipation via friction.
