agian, speaking as a person, i have some problems with some of what you say.....
Usually DIY starts with copying someone else's design, then improving on it. Reverse engineering for gaining knowledge and even cloning for personal use is perfectly OK. Reverse engineering for selling cloned copies is unethical.
diy usualy does start that way, but how does that make it right? we live in a society that acknowledges the value of (and ownership) of intellectual property. and, as legalistic as my tone sounds, i'm really referring to a moral notion here. by analogy, what you're saying is like it's ok to clone a "descrambler box" to get cable/satellite yourself, as long as you don't sell the boxes you make to others.....
secondly, no one is being forced to buy these things, or anything else-- how can these be a case of caveat emptor, when you'll get your money back if you don;t like them, from a strictly voluntary transaction?excuse the rambling, i'm writing this at work!!!!!
