Just to be contrary...

First, I don't think the ball in the Cereballs devices moves. That means it isn't an isolation device like the Aurios or Rollerball devices - rather it's a coupler.

Second, unlike Auricle I don't automatically believe most floorborne vibration is vertical. I think a lot depends on whether it is a sprung wooden floor which will have a strong vertical component in its movement or a cement slab where I suspect that the motion will be more of a wave motion and stronger horizontally than vertically.

My feeling, based on my experience, is that spring isolation techniques are best used immediately under the component and that everything below there should be coupled. There are other approaches - there are an awful lot of flex and movement points in the Grand Prix Audio Monaco rack, for instance, and that may well prove to be one of the most effective techniques but getting that approach right on a DIY basis is difficult. On a DI?Y basis I'd go for rigidity with a single spring layer immediately below the component.

Not all isolation devices are "springs" (the balls act as a spring because of their movement and return action), and the constrained layer damping platforms usually aren't springs. My preference is to get the frequency of any movement below the spring up as high as possible, which guarantees that the spring will be more capable of dealing with it, and also to get the amplitude of that movement as low as possible because it's then less of an issue anyway and the spring layer will reduce that amplitude even further. I think Symposium recomment placing their Rollerballs under their platforms and it may well be that approach is the best. If I were using balls I'd want to try both techniques and go with the one I preferred. After all, the only thing there is to lose is a bit of time and effort.
