I'm planning on building a Risch filter or two in the next month or so. A couple questions:A) using a friend's borrowed Blue Circle balanced transformer once, I learned (as others have) that while the front-end stuff sounded great plugged into it, the amps sounded dull/dark. At some point I want to build a balanced power supply, but for front-end only. However, I have wondered about a Risch filter (with four instead of two inductors) for my amps. Does the Risch filter kill amp dynamics or make them sound dark, or do they not kill 'em (like the Ulitmate Outlet, supposed to be amp friendly.)
B) if the Risch filter works well for amps, I need to know how much wattage I can take from it (with four inductors.) Here is my scenario:
A) one duplex outlet feeds the system. One socket will be source only: tube preamp (40 watts or so though may build a seperate tube line and phono stage, so that may go to 80s watts), SACD player (38 watts) and electrostatic panels (5 watts each = 10 watts.) Turntable is battery powered, so it's home free. These components will be fed by one Risch filter (and, later, balanced power as well.)
B) the second outlet on the duplex will feed my Innersound crossover amp (currently 200 watts/channel at 4 ohms, but may switch to the current version, which is 300 at 8 ohms/600 at 4 ohms per channel.) Then the amp(s) for the ESl panels: switching off between a Music Reference RM9 (draws about 500 watts) or a monoblock pair of Monarchy SM70 Pros (not sure of current draw, but amps are Class A, 80 watts at 8 ohms, 120 at 4 ohms.) I don't listen that loud, but still there is a bit of power there. Would this be too much for the Risch Filter with 4 inductors? Or should I, say, place the Innersound amp on the Risch filter with the source components (adding two inductors for high current.) I would prefer to keep the amps seperate from the source components. Also, will have an isolation transformer on the SACD player.
