Polarity is audible, typically the correct polarity will result
in a lower noise floor (not necessarily hum) and better resolution
on low level tranients. And yes, all pieces should be checked.I don't agree that a user install "modern grounding power cords" on
equipment. If the piece came with a 2 prong plug and is relatively
modern (say post 1970) then replacing the plug with a 3 prong has
the potential to void the UL certification. If something goes wrong
and you start a fire, don't expect insurance to pick up the damages.
Besides, a grounding plug does nothing to insure positive /neutral
polarity. Even with a ground plug, you should still check polarities.
