polarity at the ac plug *IS* important. Some equipment can be dangerous if it is wrong. Strictly speaking, the right terminal with the round grounding plug down is the hot. However, if you want to verify this, it is simple and inexpensive. Go to a Home Depot-type store. Purchase a electrical tester. They have a NE2 neon bulb in them, and cost as little as $5. If you want something better, there is also a little square tester that has lots of LEDS on them, and they will tell you if you have a miswire. they are MUCH better but more expensive.
