P.S... Over at avs Mike VansEvers has offered the answer to why this tweak works if anyone cares to read it:-) Actually very simple...

I read it. Not so much simple as simpleminded. Unfortunately he seems to be about as clueless about physics and electronics as you are.

For example, he says that in his power enhancers, he has two fuses, each in series with MOVs. He says one is across the hot and neutral lines. Ok, an MOV across the hot and neutral common and used for voltage surge protection. If the voltage across the MOV rises above the MOV's breakdown voltage, it goes from a high impedance to a low impedance, effectively shorting across the AC line for the duration of the voltage surge.

But why on earth would you put a fuse in series with the MOV? You get a voltage surge, the MOV opens up shorting across the AC line causing a considerable amount of current to flow through the MOV. And since the fuse is in series with the MOV, that current will also flow through the fuse. Now what happens when the fuse blows? The MOV's no longer in the circuit so any subsequent voltage surges will no longer be suppressed. And unless you regularly check the fuse, you'll never know if it's been blown. Duh?

The second MOV/fuse combination he says is wired between neutral and ground. Huh? The neutral wire and ground wire are effectively one and the same since they are both tied together at the service panel (and subsequently to earth ground via the grounding rod). Duh?
