Alot of laboratory power supplies that use high power series pass regulators use choke filters in the power supply before the pass elements. But boy these puppies are huge, 1-5 henry with a dc resistance of only 3-4 ohms and probably weigh 25 pounds each. When I order a replacement they typically cost 7-8 hundred dollars, Can.
However, you can use a smaller choke if you use a capacitor input filter.
