Re: choke regulation + filtering in SS amps--Need source

Steve--You just touched on the tip of the real problem. Chokes were used for years in tube amps and a few hundred ohms resistance for a 10H choke meant no problem since we are talking abt no more than 400ma current draw for most tube amps. Its a whole new ballgame on solid state amps where current draw can be at least 5A for a good one. If you figure what the V drop on a few hundred ohms resistance is you see that chokes for solid state amps must be very lo resistance and as far as I know its not a readily avil item in the H range. Maybe Musical Fidelity settles for just a few mh inductance and thats easy to get. Two henries @ 5-10 ohms is one BIG bunch of wire and iron. So much so as nobody makes them that I know of off the shelf. Don`t want to go to England to get a pair. The 4mH chokes I got surplus are less than one ohm in resistance but how can only 4mH do the big improv I noted? Maybe I`m changing the laws of physics.
