Informative review of the CAT. I put my current system together in the early 90's (Jeff Rowland Consummate/amps/avalon ascent etc.) I am surprised and pleased that I have stayed with this system. However, when I put it together I gave serious consideration to the CAT preamp and it is great to hear that it has maintained its impressive position. You are quite right that the CAT package is a great combination. Given what I paid for the separate preamp and phono stage, the CAT is a bargain. Question: How long are the interconnect runs between the CAT and the amps. I have about 20 feet (balanced; rediculously expensive) b/c I have the preamp and turntable etc. in a separate room for sound insulation reasons. Have you ever heard the CAT with a long run of interconnect between the preamp and amp? The answer may be obvious to you but I am not technically informed. Thanks -- raphael.
