I'm using the stock tubes. I thought the Nagra's phono stage was a bit sweeter/smoother than the CAT's, meaning it is probably kinder to poorer recordings. It definitely sounded better using only the phono stage and the TAPE outputs. This works well because of the volume controls setup on the PL-P which allows volume control on the TAPE outs.In comparison, the line stage of the CAT is really hard to fault IMHO, having the improvements over a passive in the areas I mentioned in the review. Overall, I prefer the CAT (unless I used a low output MC, like one of the Platinum Koetsus).
