The previous poster covered the band's history well, so there's no need to rehash. I discovered Badfinger well past their heyday--around the time of their last album, the underrated "Say No More"--and it totally changed my life. I've always been a fan of well-constructed pop/rock with intelligent lyrics, and these guys were one of the best bands you'll ever hear at that. Almost every song they ever made--and I mean this literally--was memorable and eminently catchy, a testmanet to their supreme melodic genius. Their lyrics, though, reflected the band's sad state of affairs. They're filled with images of death, sadness, loss, and longing. I find their story continually fascinating. It's my professed purpose in life to turn as many people on to the band as I can before I die! So far, I've been only moderately successful. Most people can't/won't hear past the Beatles connection--which is a tragedy, because these guys deserve SO much more. With any luckk, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will eventually recognize Badfinger's genius and influence. Of course, if it comes at all, it'll come too late for Mike, Pete, and Tommy. At least their families will get some satisfaction, though. "Straight Up" and "No Dice" are the obvious places for newbies to start, but EVERY album is worth a listen. "Badfinger" and "Wish You Were Here" are two of the most sadly overlooked rock albums you'll ever hear. Pure brilliance. My compliments on your fine taste. Enjoy!
