Re: you know razz...

*i may start thinking you are interested in buying my ATCs...:)*
ha..
I am looking for a used pair of active 10s, tho. :)

I realise that making the 20s sing is rather a pain in the arse, but the results can be rewarding. I can sympathise with what you are goning through as I have watched other active ATC owners went through the same thing.

The 20s are good enough speakers to be worth your time. You really ought to consider rewire them as several other active ATC owners reported positive results. And they all told me that the ATC uses pretty crappy internal wire.

Also, pay attention to your mains. Are you running a dedicated line? It's one of the cheapest upgrade you can do to any hifi system.

I have to mention that one of the best ATC active system I have heard was SCM50/Crimson 710 pre all wired with DNM through out... with guess what.. 50$ Pioneer DVD player! :D

Of course, it gets better with a decent record player as a source, but
for a system with no valve kit in sight, the 50s captured naturalness and flow of the music with plenty of life extremely well.

It was working as a system. Sometimes with the right preamp, you can get away with a lesser source.

Regarding the Apollo.
I haven't heard this player. But I hope they sorted out the early generation's glitch. I would be cautious buying used unless it's a dealer dem.

A friend was in the market for a CD player. He demmed both the Naim 5i and Apollo. Neither quite did everything, but he ended up buying the Naim player as the day he was going to pick up one or the other, he saw a customer returned malfunctioning Apollo sitting at the dealers.

I am not being any help for you, but I am afraid, the only way you'll know the right one, you have to home dem a few in your system.
The same goes for the cables.

Start from a power cords and mains assuming they are set up optimally already in the room.
