I have a Behringer DEQ2496 and my unit is not noisy nor shrill in the highs when used as a DAC. It is actually quite smooth.There does seem to be quality control issues with these units but after my first one was broken out of the box the second one has worked great. I have very revealing speakers that hilite differences in amps and preamps, and there is not much of a difference in sound between the DAC in my Behringer and the built in DAC of my Marantz SA-8260. Once the parametric eq is properly set up to nail room response peaks, the Behringer becomes priceless.
