On my tri-amped, very high sensitivity system, different speaker cables sound very different.
Not only that, but I have to match the cable going to the high pass, to the one going to the low pass, otherwise I get some loss of coherency.
I don't know if anyone has tried that before, but I'm almost certain if one would use very different speaker cables for the left and right channel, then play a mono signal, the mono image would be skewed one way or the other. It also happens with brand new vs broken-in cable (yes, cables dO break in).
I'm happily using some Chinese cables at the moment, they took a while to break in, at some point they sounded truly horrendous - the more complex the cable construction, the longer and more sensible the break-in period, in my experience.
Have fun!
