It's kind of a joke really. I went to a GM training course when the AFM lifter system came out. IIRC there is a 15 percent fuel gain at highway speeds IF ALL parameters go just right for system to work properly.
Ok 15 percent of 18 MPG is not much savings. Certainly not enough for the average driver. Maybe for a fleet service it's fine though.
