both uses lossy digital data compression.DAB is a stand alone radio system designed FOR satellite or Mtn top use to CARS etc. in Austria / Alps / Tyrol etc!, IE straight down - into canyons - where FM is hopeless in CARS because of multi-path! like half of the ACT where I live. ? Canberra!?
HD piggie backs - as another side-band - on analogue FM, and can damage it, too!
Neither design anticipated using MLP or any other lossless codec, so they CAN'T and wouldn't be able to!
IMO & long experience! - with lossy digital - even using MPEG2's audio layer (which is NOT as lossy as either DAB or HD) you need to get pretty high (512KBPs) rates AND optimise quality by focussing on starting transients / attacks of notes, to get 'close enough' to analogue sound. More? ask!
