Hi, "Frogman"!That was your first visit to the Freight? Man, you have missed some awesome concerts there! Cathryn and I try to go there whenever John Renbourn comes to town!
Did you notice the Meyer Sound Labs monitors mounted in the place? That has made a HUGE difference in sound.
Incidentally, on Tuesday evening, there was a little gathering of AES members over at Meyer Sound Labs in Berkeley. We chatted, ate some very nice food and then were invited into the new Pearson Theatre for a showing of "Sound Man--From Magnetic Tape to MP3", a documentary about the life of Jack Mullin, the man who brought back a German Magnetophone tape recorder at the close of WWII and was instrumental (along with funding from Bing Crosby) in getting Ampex up and running for the manufacture of fine tape recorders in the late 1940's.
The Pearson Theatre is amazing, particularly for a private, smaller venue. Imagine perfect sound and you will get the idea! They used a newer BLU-RAY player and digital projection system for the screening and it was perfect in every aspect.
The room is not as large as the one at Dolby HQ nor is it as large as the screening room over at Pixar. But for its size, it does compare favorably with the new ILM facilities in the SF Presidio and the "Stag Theater", over at Skywalker, but it is one very SWEET room!
(Thanks, John Meyer!)
It's nice to hear that you scored a Sansui TU-9090. I still have one, too!
Take care -- and enjoy the holidays!
