How does one know when a tuner needs alignment?

Which tuner to get and getting the most from it. Thank God, for the radio!

I have a Sansui TU-X1 that sounds great on our college radio station. Sometimes the tuner emanates a chirping sound. The sound doesn't come through the speakers. Does this mean it needs attention?
