I live in Ann Arbor, MI and I plotted my location relative to FM transmitting stations in the area. There are a number of good FM stations east of my house towards Detroit which are about 30 miles away, but because there is a modest hill between my house and the transmitters, I don't have line-of-sight to these stations (the webpage states that the antenna would need to be about 100 feet up in the air to attain line-of-sight). The webpage (FM-fool) shows that these stations are 2-Edge type from my location, and the signal strengths are in the range of -60 to -70 db.
I figured that because of the hill and low signal strength that I would need to put in at least a rhombic at the top of my second story room, about 25 feet off the ground. But does the low signal strength suggest that I really need to do something more drastic to get good FM reception?
