I use 4 paralleled Mills 12w 2200R resistors on my amp as well, and have them fanned out to dissipate the heat. This is after I fried a gold finned 25w 550R resistor in that same amp. I vaguely recall making another change, which probably resulted in less power going through the cathode. Haven't had any problems since with it.
