I would have to agree with Cheap-o on this one. In fact this happened to me when I was a teenager. I though it would be cool to hook my TV to to my stereo. I soldered a patch cord to the speaker and had the TV on when I was fishing the patch cord around behind my stereo. The patch cord touched the case of my pre-amp and BLAM! sparks, smoke, and the TV never worked again.

Later I learned what a hot chassis was and why it happened.

Your best bet would be, if the TV has a line level audio output, to get a pair of cordless head phones.
