Remote troubleshooting is just a guess, but I'll guess you had a tantalum in backwards. They take about a minute or less to overheat and short out. It likely took something else out with it, maybe whatever was providing the signal upstream. It could even have opened a trace. Check that everything has power with a DVM, and do a careful visual check with a magnifier everywhere from the power supply on. If you have a scope, trace back from the opamp input, looking for signal. Mods without test equipment and a schematic are always a bit risky because when something goes wrong, it can be tough to find.
