thanks, i get it. good point. i kindof had the feeling that the caps - which necessarily end up in series - would be the limiting factor; it would probably require such a huge amount of capacitance in each leg to make it work that the cost savings would disappear. So, I either design a tube circuit that works with really low B+ and just bridge directly (giving me about 130 volts to play with after a cap and choke) - which has probably been done and may not actually be such a bad idea - or I find out where to get alloy in a big bulk roll that I can make thundering big power supply toroids from by hand. Think I'll do both - both sound like a lot of fun!!
