... both winding "starts" are together and (therefore) both "ends" are together.

The alternative will give you a dead flux short and blow any fuse you care to fit.


Adjacent turn shorts are a pain because they only represemt 1/n of the resistance of the winding, where n = number of turns. 300 turns easily on a primary, so you may be looking for only 0.3% difference.


Definitely go for the primaries - just disconnect one of them and it should work fine with only one connected, but lose a little efficiency.
