Auction Scam-shill bidders

I saw this article about shill bidders on Ebay. I suspect this happened to me a couple of times on Audiogon. Both times I was outbid for an item and I did not bite at the higher bid price to win an item. After the auction ended, I was offered the item at my highest bid or at the winning bid price. In one case I was outbid by 4 separate bidders. In another case, I was outbid by someone who had previously won the item but did not complete the transaction the first time he placed a winning bid. Why wouldn't the seller have this person's bid removed?
Glad to see they are getting some of these guys. Anyway, caveat emptor.
