There are so many things that you can do with new construction, that you can't readily do with an existing space, that an adequate response would be lengthy.Fundamentally, remember that your listening and viewing habits may be different in 5 or 10 years, and that this is your chance to get it right for future uses (and resale value). A "do-over" is way more expensive than a "do-it-right". Although it might push your budget up another $5,000, in 5 years you won't be thinking about that anymore, you'll just be thinking about how much you like your room.
I'd make it more like 17' (or more) instead of 14' if you can. 14 is just on the edge of being a nice size room, but without the nice size. I'm also a fan of sloped ceilings. They look cool, and they help the acoustics. Splay the walls a little if you can (5 to 7 degrees is useful in managing low frequencies and avoiding flutter echoes).
Provide access for easily running whatever additional cables you may want to install down the road.
Power distribution: never underestimate your hunger for more power.
