The Rives post should worry you. I agree with them. You need low frequency absorption. Most resonant panel absorbers are not tuned low enough or cover enough area to do the job.I don't recommend #5 but just build regular walls as described. Go a little light on 1/4" plywood diet (no insult intended).
Others can sound in. Just about an 8' ceiling height should do nicely (especially if you reduce the rooms dimensions with sheetrock walls/ceiling. You still have a small room and those room modes still dominate.
