If I have learned anything about computer audio, it is that the simpler things are the better they usually sound.
If you are thinking of 3 $50 cards or something like that, it limits your mobo choices and increases your hassle. You also have to use asio4all which is pretty lame sounding.
Look for one of those Lynx AES16 used. More money but will sound better and certainly be easier to implement.
Of all the inmates out there, I dream of winning the lottery and sending you a check the most! Think of what you could do with funding!
