RE: What DACs can play 24/176 or 24/192?

To play this format you need an output on the computer and an input on the DAC able to do 24/192
SPDIF or AES/EBU: check the specs of both your sound card and the DAC
Firewire: there is no standard for audio over Firewire, check the spec’s of the DAC as the manufacturer supplies the driver
USB: all major OS support the USB audio 1 standard (native mode driver).
Check the DAC
- a lot of USB DAC’s use a drop in chip supporting 16/48 max.
- some support up to 24/96, this is the max supported by USB audio 1
- very few support 24/192. As this is not supported by the USB audio standard 1, it requires a driver developed by the manufacturer.

If a DAC is capable of 24/192 and have different inputs, not all of them might be capable of 24/192. A Bryston BDA does 24/192 but the USB input is limited to 16/48
